Spacemusic leaves the planet in 2017

In the year 2017 will leave the planet.

This includes:

  • podcast files no longer available
  • website will stop working
  • domain name for sale
  • closing of the Rotterdam studio
  • packing bags and suitcases
  • one-way ticket to a new destination (Life - part 2)

If someone is interested in taking over the domain name - - please be so kind to tell and send an e-mail. The lucky one (highest bid) with the best plans, can continue to host - as in DOMAIN NAME.

Keeping everything up and running

Ending our podcasts this Season, doesn't mean we should take our feeds and our archives offline! We must safe all the beautiful things we have! We know lots of people are just getting started listening to Spacemusic. We offer a decade full of ambient and electronic entertainment.... That's so cool about podcasting, listeners come and go, all ages, all levels, at any moment in time!

Now, in order to keep everything online and available to the public, needless to say.... we need our sponsors! We need our supporters that choose for an automatic payment each month via Paypal (please check our donation levels) or a donation every now and then. Some donate a few bucks, others might choose for a long term Spacemusic Commitment: in fact you can choose to become an Executive Producer of the show!

What does it all cost?
Spacemusic Podcasts annual calculations;

* domain + hosting plan = $99
[unlimited bandwidth plan incl. hosting of older shows]

* Podcast storage & distribution via Libsyn server = $192
[400MB plan incl. Spacemusic App]

* Yearly software updates and maintenance = ~ $120
[site, RSS feeds management, backup software]

* Yearly hardware maintenance & service = ~ $180
[server/system admin (man)hours, hardware maintenance]

* Total Annual Cost: ~ $590

Contact Us:
Please contact us if you'd like to help and keep our station ONLINE. Or just pick a subscription level and we'll get an e-mail right away. It all starts at a monthly $3 level so why wait? We'd love to keep our feeds high in the air, the site running smoothly and the Spacemusic App in the store. It would be really sad if we'd have to cancel our plans as mentioned above. Because that would really mean the END of Spacemusic....

NB: Since our last show 9.10 LOG we've noticed that automatic payments were cancelled immediately..... we're not even finished yet! There's more shows coming in Season 9! Of course people are free to do what they want and we'd like to say: "Thank You for your support! "

Remember: this will be the end of the podcast, the format we've been publishing since 2005.

the Enhanced Podcast

Spacemusic enhanced podcast files (since the beginning of Season 9) have been great fun! At least this has been the case till we decided to upgrade our MAC OS systems to MAC OS X Mavericks (10.9) three weeks ago...

Though Garagband 6.0.5 has not been upgraded on our systems (we know about the lack of the podcast functionality in the latest GB, which is something we still can't believe) intense testing has proven that under 10.9 Mavericks, the enhanced podcast file generated by Garageband 6.0.5 is not working well. .... adding ID3 tags in iTunes to the exported file from Garageband results in a damaged file! Even Quicktime can't open the file and shows an error.

MAC OS X 10.9.4
iTunes 11.2.2. (3)
Garageband 6.0.5
Quicktime 10.3 (727.4)

Known issue:

The final podcast file plays in iTunes and more audio players. The Apple TV however does NOT recognize the file and generates an error. This is not caused by the Apple TV, neither by the Spacemusic RSS podcast feed. Many Apps out there no longer show the chapters of the enhanced podcast file. Even the PODCAST app by Apple won't show the chapters anymore.

Update 2014-07-09:

After the export from Garageband, we always import in iTunes to write (ID3) tags. From there we export again and upload to servers. Turns out that iTunes 11.2.2. (3) did completely mess up the file. Even Quicktime could not open the podcast and generated an error. Couple of hours research and switching between 10.8 and 10.9 now makes it clear that all of the above is caused by iTunes 11.2.2. (3) on Mavericks 10.9.4

Export from Garageband - Import into Music Tag Editor - write tags - save file - upload to server. File is working 100%

Plans to (definately) stop publishing the Enhanced Podcast Format.

We have every reason to believe that the Podcast in general might become history soon.

" What's a podcast Dad ? " - "Hmmm, that was so cool son, you could download show files, take them with you, click through chapters, click on links, very interactive entertainment, best invention ever! But now, we can only stream my friend..."
